Robert began attending LCA in the eighth grade after moving from his home in Texas.  Along with his academic success, Robert also participates in the school’s marching band as well as concert band.  He has currently been accepted to Kennesaw State, and he is patiently waiting to hear from UGA. His goal is to work in IT or possibly continue his passion for music by working in music education.

As STAR Student, Robert had the opportunity to choose the teacher he believed was the most influential in his academic journey at LCA.  In the past two years, Robert has been a student of Mrs. Corrente’s in her American Literature and AP Literature/Composition classes. When making the decision to choose Mrs. Corrente for STAR teacher, Robert explained, “She really cares about her students... To her class, she brings a great perspective of looking at both modern and historical literature through a lens of the social issues of today.”

Tonya Corrente graduated from Taylor University in Indiana, and this is her eighteenth year teaching a variety of Literature courses at LCA.  While discussing her time working at LCA, she expressed her passion for not only teaching what she loves, but also getting to mentor students: “You get to talk about real-life issues… and to be able to apply those things to our lives and to be able to do it from a Biblical worldview is something that I do not take for granted…  I love to invest in the lives of students here for eternity and for the long haul.”

When asked about why she believed Robert deserved STAR student, she said, “Robert is such a hard worker.  He puts all of his effort into everything he does with excellence… I was not surprised that he got STAR student.”  From her experience teaching him the past two years, she praised his drive to always improve himself and his work. Comically known as her “residential fact-checker,” Robert is known for going above and beyond inside and outside of the classroom.  His drive for success and growth is evident in everything he does, and we, at LCA, are proud to call him our 2020 STAR student.
