Leave Your Mark: Andre King

Since the establishment of LCA back in 1998, our story has been one of God’s faithfulness revealed through His people. From laying sod to building classrooms, our story has become a timeline of families committed to leaving their mark not just for their children, but the generations to come. Hear from Andre King, our Community Engagement and College Recruitment Director about his LCA story and the mark that was left on his family from past LCA families that gave to the vision and mission of Loganville Christian Academy.

joining the story

When our family entered the LCA story in 2007, we were greeted with a warm flow of support and a family-like atmosphere that made us feel at home around the Pridelands. We quickly adjusted to LCA’s mission statement and knew why LCA existed:  to prepare students academically, spiritually, and socially for God's calling on their life.  We thought that was a great platform, a great foundation, and a springboard for all students as they moved through their time at LCA.

One thing that resonated with me the most was this theme of building for future generations. This idea was born in 1998, and when we entered the story in 2007, they were building towards a future that would welcome our family.

the journey capital campaign

When I started working at LCA, I saw enormous generosity from all our parents. It was unbelievable. As I moved into the role of Athletic Director, our campus did not have the facilities that it does today.  Athletically speaking, every game was an away game because we did not have the ability to host athletic events on our campus due to a lack of facility infrastructure. But when we launched the Journey Capital Campaign in 2008, our parents, grandparents, Board of Trustees, and faculty all bought into this vision of what LCA could be.

At the end of our Journey Campaign, we saw fruit from the labor of students, parents, board members, faculty, and staff. We were all in.  What was birthed was the beautiful building we affectionately call the Lodge that accommodates both our athletic and academic needs, and our baseball, softball, and football fields were built. Additionally, the carpool ring road was finally paved and our families no longer had to drive on gravel. The Barn would be added many years later, and this is another example of commitment from our parents, students, and faculty members giving their very best to improve the student experience here at LCA and leave their mark for the generations to come.

Now that we have a majority of the campus built, our students, parents, and guests can appreciate the amenities that our campus provides, and we can have a sense of pride that comes with knowing that we too can enjoy the home field advantage.

dan gealy

One truly inspiring story of someone leaving a mark is our late baseball coach, Dan Gealy.  Dan was a Dentist, and he did a lot of work in our community.  Both his children graduated from LCA, and during their high school years, and during their time at LCA, Dan passed away to cancer.

Dan exemplified a love for LCA that was second to none.  He  was one of those dads that not only coached and mentored young men, but he led the charge when it came down to caring for our facilities.  He would schedule work days to build fences, lay sod, or whatever repairs were needed around the ballpark.

Dan was alway bothered by the fact that when it rained, baseball practice had to be cancelled because the team did not have anywhere to go. He had a vision of LCA having a covered batting cage so the team could still host practice even as inclement weather moved into our area. When we lost Dan, his family knew the best way we could honor him would be to build a batting pavilion in his honor.

Now, The Dan Gealy Pavilion, “The DG”, is home to our baseball and softball players where they can work on their craft no matter the weather.  Rain will no longer play a factor in the cancellation of practices.  Just as the light is always shining on the marquee that bears Dan’s name, we hope that this structure will always stand for the many generations of students that will come through LCA.  Dan Gealy truly left his mark on LCA.

Today, we have families that are entering the LCA Story through the Remarkable Annual Fund Campaign that will be leaving their mark on LCA for decades and decades to come. I am just excited because we all get to be part of something bigger than ourselves as individuals, and it is a blessing when the people of God come together in order to do something great for future generations.

for future generations

This thread of “for Future Generations” had greater meaning for our family during 2020.  You see, when I joined the LCA staff in 2007, our son, Anthony, was less than a year old.  I recall him crawling around the floor of Mrs. Monda’s office during my interview.  A few years later, Anthony would attend LCA as a Kindergartener and continued to stairstep his way through the grades. Then one day, in the spring of his freshman year, he took to the baseball field for the first time.  He was at batting practice, and I was watching him from the Dan Gealy Pavillion down the left field line.  All of a sudden, it hit me. This field was not even built when he was crawling around our Founder’s office.  But God went before all of us and stirred in the hearts of students, parents, grandparents, and business owners to do something great for current students and for those to come.  He and many other students who are here at LCA today are the future generations that LCA was building for.

These are just a few of the remarkable stories that LCA is founded on. May we continue to leverage our resources to build God’s Kingdom.

Today, we benefit from the faithfulness of our families years ago. Now, we have the opportunity to make the same impact for our current students and the generations to come. As we continue our mission, we would like to encourage you to ask yourself how you will leave your mark on our community today.
