At LCA, we believe that school is more than an education. Each day, we have an opportunity to leave a mark on the next generation in a way that impacts eternity. Hear from alumni, Madison Thorne, about how a former staff member left a mark on her life during her years at LCA.
One person from my LCA story who left her mark on my life was a former teacher. Her name is Jennifer Armstrong, and she taught me 6th and 7th grade English. In her class, we did a lot of English, but she always started class by talking to us about the Lord. It was either a story or something she had recently read or heard.
As a 12 year old girl, I was wrestling with God, who He was, and what all of the Christianity stuff meant. I grew up in a home that gave me a Christian foundation, but it was at 12 years old that I recognized my need for Jesus and turned from sin. Mrs. Armstrong is a part of that story.
I had a dream one night. I fell asleep in our living room, which always contributed to weird dreams for me, but this one was different. I remember the dream so vividly even today. I dreamed of eternity, and in the dream, it was dark and lonely. It was hellish, but not in the fiery, red kind of way. I was surrounded by darkness and emptiness. I was alone. That was the major emphasis of the dream — I was alone forever, completely separated from God in eternity.
It scared me. I took the dream to Mrs. Armstrong the next day after class and described what I had experienced in the dream. She talked me through it, and she asked if I had ever truly confessed to the Lord that I needed Him. She helped me pray that day to surrender my life to Him and gave me next steps.
I will never forget that; I remember our conversation vividly. I am grateful for the impact she had on me in 6th grade!
We all have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the people around us. How will you leave your mark today?
