FINE ARTS

Art

Fine arts at LCA focuses on developing creative thinkers and visually literate students. The art room is a space for students to learn the art elements with an emphasis on observation. Learning to use a variety of art media and techniques encourages exploration and fosters an understanding of excellence in craftsmanship. The art elements, skills and materials that are introduced are continually reinforced throughout the learner’s elementary years and spirals into the upper school program.  The artistic experiences provide a means of self-expression and serve to build confidence in each student. Academic units of study are integrated as much as possible to broaden and enhance the learning which takes place in the classroom. The emphasis of our art program at the elementary level is to develop observant examiners of God’s creation, which in turn cultivates creative thinking and problem-solving skills.

MUSIC

The Lower School music program at LCA cultivates a student’s ability to create, perform, and respond to music.  This is done through the lens that God created us in His image to be creative beings.  Students in pre-K through fifth grade attend weekly music classes where they will explore music, and every Christmas, students present the Gospel through singing and acting.

Students also have the chance to create and perform using instruments.  LCA offers “Rockin’ Recorders,” a Recorder ensemble for second and third grade students that provides them with the opportunity to learn the recorder as well as several Orff and percussion instruments.  This ensemble spirals into our fourth and fifth grade classes as they have the opportunity to join our band program and learn how to play an instrument.  In addition to these extracurricular opportunities for instrumental music, LCA is launching a Lower School Chorus for second through fifth grade students for the Fall of 2020.  Our music room not only provides a space for our students learn about music, but also actively engages them in the creative process necessary for constructing and performing music.
