UPPER SCHOOL COMMUNITY SERVICE
For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10
Every year, our middle school and high school students participate in a day long work-a-thon. During this day, our students perform tasks such as lawn care and household cleaning for families with special needs, task and errand assistance for elderly members of our community, making a meal for a local homeless shelter, working on a Habitat for Humanity House, or cleaning the workspace for a local ministry.
The LCA Work-A-Thon also provides students with an opportunity to raise support by collecting pledges for their work hours. This past year, students logged more than 1200 volunteer hours during the Work-A-Thon. For more information on our annual fundraising events, click here.
The goal of the community service program, “IMPACT” is to develop a daily lifestyle of service by providing opportunities for leadership outside of academics and athletics. This allows students’ spiritual gifts and talents to be used to impact our community for Christ. Students who choose to participate may select almost any area of service. High school students should record community service hours in GCIS. Middle school students are not required to use a specific form to record hours; however the hours, location and name of a supervising adult will need to be recorded. Information will be collected quarterly for students participating in Impact.
A student completing 20 hours or more of community service within a school year will be recognized at the end of the year.
A student completing 30 hours or more of community service within one school year will admitted to the honor fraternity, Emerio. Emerio means: to obtain by service, earn completely, deserve well. Thirty hours must be served each year for the membership status to remain intact.
Restrictions for the IMPACT program are as follows:
- If payment is made for the service, it is not accepted as IMPACT hours.
- Hours served during LCA's Work A Thon are not accepted as IMPACT hours.
- Fundraising for political candidates is not considered IMPACT hours.
- Mission trips will be limited to 1/3rd of the trip length unless the hours of service can be proven to be more.
Mission trip opportunities are provided for our students. LCA has been represented in areas such as Brazil, Haiti and Honduras.
